Autumn Festival
Year 2000

by Maria Roliz

The theme for this event was picked because it was close enough to the Chinese Moon Festival, and many of us that were raised in Macau and Hong Kong remember the nostalgia of paper lanterns and moon cakes, which prompted us to continue that tradition here. We decided on Chin’s House Restaurant once again, since everyone enjoyed the food and atmosphere when we had the Millennium and Post Macau Handover Party this year. For effect, we decorated the place with Chinese lanterns and hung the Macau and Portuguese flags.

The evening started with hosted drinks, hors d’oeuvres, a roasted suckling pig followed with a buffet consisting of eight or more entrees. There were plenty of food and drinks for everyone. To top it off, Mike Souza brought in a cake lettered “Lusitano Autumn Festival.”

Our Vice-President, Mike Souza, entertained the crowd with a few guitar Fado solos as everyone sat and enjoyed the sumptious meal. To work off all the food, DJ for the evening Chris Brown provided an array of tunes including some lively disco mixes for everyone to dance to. His first public attempt as DJ was definitely a smashing success enjoyed by all. At times virtually everyone, juniors and seniors, was on the dance floor, which was quite an amazing sight! We look forward to his help as an able volunteer member in the future. Chris is the younger of two sons of Sarah and the late Anthony “Jock” Brown.
