To prepare chicken: Mix altogether and marinate chicken for about 3 hours. Broil in oven and brown all sides.
To prepare sauce: Heat oil over medium heat. Add shallots and garlic and cook until softened (careful not to burn). Add all other ingredients and simmer for another 15 minutes over low heat. Drizzle a little sauce over each piece of chicken and bake at 350 deg. for 30 minutes. Extra sauce can be served on the side.
Serve with rice.
