
PALCUS is pleased to announce that the 2026 application cycle for the PALCUS National Scholarships is now open.
PALCUS offers the following scholarships:
- PALCUS General Scholarship – Undergraduate
- PALCUS General Scholarship – Graduate
- Alexandre Antonio da Costa Simoes Memorial Scholarship – designated for a student studying Portuguese
- Duque de Bragança Scholarship – designated to a student that demonstrated an interest in Portuguese history
- Rosa Family Scholarship – Designated for a student from Connecticut
- NEW THIS YEAR: Luso-American Education Foundation (LAEF) Scholarship
To be eligible, students must be a current full-time college undergraduate (at least freshman) or graduate student in an approved program of study (high school seniors / entering freshmen are not eligible). For more about eligibility and procedures, please visit:

Please note: This year’s PALCUS Scholarship application timeline differs from prior years. Due to the PALCUS Gala being held in the Azores, the application deadline has been moved earlier to April 15. This adjustment is intended to provide scholarship recipients with ample time to plan travel arrangements should they wish to attend the Gala.
We encourage all applicants to plan accordingly and submit their materials by the April 15 deadline.
Eligibility requirements for the PALCUS scholarships are as follows:
PALCUS MEMBERSHIP
- Young Portuguese-American at $25 per year
U.S. CITIZENSHIP OR PERMANENT LEGAL U.S. RESIDENT
- Proof of I551 card with no restrictions required
PORTUGUESE ANCESTRY
- Aggregate of least 25%, i.e. total Portuguese ancestry of the applicant
BACCALAUREATE OR GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAM
- Full-time student attending a baccalaureate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university in the United States (high school seniors / entering freshmen are not eligible)
GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of a minimum of 3.0.
